For many generations the Torti family has been growing its own grapes near Montecalvo Versiggia, a small town in the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese region - a region with a centuries-long tradition of winemaking. “You have to respect the land and everything that comes from it” was Pietro's father's favourite saying. Respecting the land, respecting the vineyard and the grapes are the founding rules of Pietro's philosophy of work. Producing wines in a natural way - with permanent grass covering the vineyards, organic fertilisation, very limited use of sulphur and copper as fungicides - is not the easy way; but Pietro embraces the challenge because for him ''wines of great personality can only be made by refusing the standardisation of taste.''
